This New World

To come home to no pay phones anywhere,

when they use to be everywhere, on every corner hungry

for our quarters nickels and dimes.

To YouTube and Netflix over a cable box

where you have to get up to change the channel.

From a time when kids rode Huffy bikes in droves-

neighborhoods today barren,

Children Hidden inside their homes hypnotized by video games or

YouTube videos of other people playing video games.

No more talking on your rotary landline your pacing limited

By the length of your cord. Those times seem stolen from the

Earth to me.

You all witnessed it in doses

saw it as it all began to or ceased to exist

While me? I was blindfolded and unaware of all the movement

That had transpired to and from-

Then as if dropped into outer space

I arrived at my destination –

The real world

Nothing like I remembered

Nothing like I had hoped…
