All my life I dug and dug, I was searching
Digging for hopes, digging for dreams
I thought I had lost mine, maybe accidently
Buried them in a haste, looking greedily for things I didn’t need
When I should have been satisfied with the lot I’d already had.
Finally I discovered my dreams and my hopes
Had been laying above the surface all along,
They were quite easy to spot.
So easy to see that someone nearby was coveting them.
But they’re mine I whispered.
I had to act fast.
Without a second thought,
I buried them in the dirt.
I had to.
It was the only way to keep them safe.
As I buried them, the tears fell from my eyes,
What I didn’t know was
When I buried my dreams and hopes
They were seeds,
And once the coveter was gone
And the sun knew it was safe
God called my dreams and hopes to blossom.
The ones I had watered with my own tears.
